  1. watch folders after crash

    Watched folders is a great idea - however when Mendeley crashed, restarting it automatically removed the Watch Folders links. On trying to recreate the Watched Folders, Mendeley appeared to start adding all my pdfs again - I cancelled rather than get 900 pdfs duplicated, so don't know how this worked out in the end...

      • View/page navigation

        This might be similar to page navigation features, but not quite the same. I would love Mendeley to have the feature allowing me to go back to the page I was reading after I clicked on one of the references on the page. Without this feature, I have to remember the page number, or just have to scroll and search for the page and section I was reading, which really interrupts my concentration.

        I can live without the "Go to next/previous page" or "Go to the first/last page" features since I can simply use the page up/down (or home/end) on…

        • Delete PDF when I delete the reference in Mendeley.

          When I delete a reference in Mendeley, the PDF will *not* be deleted, but I want Mendeley to organize my PDFs, including delete.

          • Right click while in PDF viewer full screen mode should allow selection of editing options

            For example, if I want to switch between the 'hand' tool and the 'highlight' tool, I should be able to do so by bringing up a right click menu and selecting it from there. Currently I have to exit full screen mode to select a different editing option.

            • Allow writing directly on the document using a stylus for tablet laptops or touchscreens

              Some may find it more convenient and easier to make notes on the documents with their own handwriting. Allows flexibility especially when equations/special symbols need to be written. If people have a tablet or or touchscreen PC, they may like to take advantage of it.

                • sync every 30 mins and on exit

                  I know most people wont like this too much, but...
                  I use mendeley on several computers and it is useful to have it sync on startup. But mendeley doesn't sync on exit or during use.
                  As sync can happen without effecting the user - can mendeley be set to sync every 30mins and then perform a sync on exit. This would mean my other computers are kept up to date when I use them.

                  • create a separate tag tree for better filtering of papers

                    Often it's useful to filter papers by tag and author, this isn't possible with the current system. If a tag tree is represented in a way similar to windows live photo gallery it would allow the possibility of sub-tags and drag and dropping of papers on to tags which would greatly extend the usefulness of tags.

                    • Add option to export notes to Endnote as "research notes"

                      Endnote has two fields: research notes and notes. Often bibliographic information is automatically included in the notes field making the "research notes" field more desirable for personal annotations. In addition, the APA annotated export from endnote for annotated bibliography assumes your annotations are in the "research notes" field, not the "notes" field.

                      It would be nice to be able to have both of these fields in Mendeley or at least some way to choose how the single notes field is translated to and endnotes field

                      • More options to sort files in subfolders

                        Currently it is possible for Mendeley to create subfolders using four options: Author, Journal, Title and Year. I would like to have another options like Collections Names or Tags. This way it would be possible to sort papers by subject.

                          File Organizer in 0.9.0 only allows subfolders and renamed file names to contain Year, Journal, Title and Author data. I certainly want my collections to be in different subfolders as well!

                            Sorry for the late acknowledgement of this request. Although we are aware of this request, we have not had the time nor resources to go through all of the open feedback requests to update them.

                            This is something that we are aware of and our Developers have been made aware of the amount of votes this request has.

                          • Choice of language in bibliography (portuguese, for example) and being able to edit text styles

                            My bibliography is filled with "Retrieved from" sentences because I have lots of websites citations. It is not ok to have "Retrieved from" in portuguese journal articles. It would be nice to be able to choose the language.

                            Also, it would be nice to be able to edit the styles of the bibliography text (most of the times it doesn't match the document styles and it doesn't look good).

                              I am dealing a lot with Turkish, German, French and other authors. That is to say I need special characters to be written correctly.

                              If I use html coding, like "Günther" in the references I get the proper writing ("Günther") in the bibliography, but I get "Günther" in the body of the manuscript. If I put a special character in references then in the text body it is correctly written but missing or misspelled in bibliography.

                                  if have 100+ references (and i will soon have 500+ references in my thesis), then after adding a new citation into text i had to wait about 20 seconds before i could use Word again ...

                                  Zotero has a similar problem, maybe even longer lag, but this really inhibits serious work

                                    Thank you very much for take a look in the VBA code and send us a patch, we will maybe play with it.

                                    We have different ideas how to speed up the plugin process and and we keep in mind your patch as well.

                                  • Improve supplementary information management

                                    Mendeley can attach multiple files to a document reference, hence allowing to add suplementary information files to original papers. However, it would be valuable if a more specific "supplementary information files" section was there. For instance the supplementary pdf's could have a proper name, not just a numbered copy of the paper's name. They could also be searched and displayed distinctly from main articles which I guess could be useful.

                                      It would be convenient to have a tool that copies an area of the pdf that you select and send it to clipboard as an image.

                                      This would be useful when preparing presentation slides and you want to cite figures from other publications.

                                        As most displays use a wide-screen format now it would be nice to be able to take advantage of that and see two pages at the same time. This is a common view option in Adobe and Evince. It makes it easier to find things

                                        • Make public collections and self-archived papers discoverable via OAI-PMH

                                          This would tie the individual collections together and make them indexable by specialized search across sites, promoting the discovery of open access content on Mendeley.
