  1. "cite popup" or "jump back"

I would really appreciate a feature which -while you read a paper- shows you the cited and crosslinked reference on mouseover (like on sciencedirect.com). Or - as I assume less tricky to implement - a "jump back to last position" function to use after I clicked on and jumped to the cited reference at the end of the document.

All this "click, jump, read, then scroll back, scroll back, where was I, scroll forward, scroll back, there it is" makes me dizzy :)

Thank you for making this awesome program!

    • Synchronize Mendeley settings between computers/devices

It would be beneficial to be able to synchronise Mendeley's settings between different computers if logged into the same account. Currently it only appears that the references and files are synchronised. If, for example I have different file name settings, a duplicate of the file is created.

      • Allow 'Split Citations'

I have several citations in a merged 'group', for example "... some fact [2-5]."

I'd like to be able to split the citations up so that I can remove one of them and merge them back together.

i.e. I'd like to remove citation number 3 from that merged block. How can I do that?

        • Colour coded stars

It would be helpful if rather than simply starring an article as important we could label them, i.e. with coloured stars (etc). This would not be required if subcollections could be made within collections!

          • don't automatically create "~/Documents" under Linux on startup when it's not used in options.

The Mendeley desktop software automatically creates a "~/Documents" folder under Linux, even if that location is never used by the program. (It also appears to create a "~/Desktop" on install.)

Whilst it's fine to create this when it's a watched folder or document location, it's very annoying to have to delete that folder every time I run Mendeley.

I know it's part of the freedesktop.org specification, but that's not really an excuse for creating an unnecessary new directory in a user's home directory.

            • add more styles of marking the documents (i.e. flags)

favorite and read/unread is not enough it can do better with additional marking possibility

We need to change the behaviour of what constitutes a paper as being marked as “Read” on the desktop client first, and make sure we’re syncing this.

While it’s not currently planned, we’ll keep this under review and revisit once the desktop behaviour is fixed.

                • Specify different paths for Bibtex export

It would be great to be able to specify different paths when I export each collection to a single .bib file. That way I can assign the file directly to my LaTeX working folder.

                  • Import EndNote Groups

I want to switch from EndNote to Mendeley, but I have all of my citations and notes in EndNote organized in Groups. Is there a way to preserve this organization when exporting, so that my documents are still in folders?

                      • Simply simplify BibTeX via clipboard/form

Maybe I miss something, but most of my sources have BibTeX support, so I import citations this way: 1. get BibTeX 2. copy BibTeX snippet to clipboard 3. open file 4. paste BibTeX snippet 5. save file 6. choose "File add files..." in Mendeley 7. choose the just saved file.

Obviously this is annoying, and could be simplified but supporting a "Pase BibTeX" command in Mendeley client, which just parses the clipboard's content. Alternatively you could add a form to type in BibTeX data

                        • Allow for author(year) style for some references

For some references, the author's name should be placed out of parenthesis (e.g. Rose(2000) discusses this issue ...)
This cannot be done by changing the style since that will affect all the references in the paper.

                          • Update pdf file edited by external programs

When pdf file is opened and edited by external programs the change is not stored in the file.
MENDELEY seems to check the file name but not check the difference of file itself when updating the database.
I suggest you to update the pdf file by checking difference in pdf file itself!

                            • do not disable watched folders after Mendeley crash

When Mendeley crashes the watched folders option is automatically disabled. Upon starting up the program you then need to go back into the options and "enable" the watched folders. When Mendeley crashes, the watched folders option should not be automatically disabled (since often this isn't even the reason for the crash).

The SAO/NASA Astrophysics Data System at http://adsabs.harvard.edu/ is an extensive astrophysics catalogue. Records are indicated by Bibliographic Codes and DOI are often linked - this would be a rich source of auto-extracting metadata similar to the arXiv.

                                        • accept citations from UpToDate.

UpToDate is one of, if not the most, used medical reference websites. It's kind of an encyclopedia and kind of a website. They have a suggestion for how it should be cited. Right now any time I want to include it in my citations I have to manually enter it. This sucks!
