  1. add a pdf crop tool to remove margins for e-reading (kindle/iliad/sony) & 2up printing

Journal article PDF files often contain rather wide margins, which are nice, in print, but reading onscreen on a Kindle or other pdf-compatible e-reader this whitespace is quite annoying. It would be nice if the mendeley pdf viewer had some e-reader friendly features such as a margin-killer. apple's preview.app has a nice crop tool, but very few other pdf programs do.

    • Watch a Folder on another volume

This problem may be specific to OS X, but I cannot find a way to have the program watch a folder that is on another volume (besides the volume OSX is installed on). My laptop has a second drive where I store anything research related and it does not appear.

      • Copy as Bibtex

In Edit menu, there should be an option to copy the selected papers as Bibtex entries, to easily add new papers to existing (.bib) files.

        • DOI/ArXiv/PMID lookup - bulk lookup

It would be really helpful if there was a way to identify all articles with a DOI/ArXiv/PMID entry (when they are first added) and do a bulk lookup rather than having to work through them individually.

          • share notes for the same document across collections, notes could be grouped

If one document is copied in various collections, only the tags are shared, notes are kept separate. It would be very helpful if all notes could be displayed, possibly grouped by the collection.

            • Selecting images in PDF's

There is many pdf files where text exist like an image. so "Select text" option didn't work. You can only "Add note". I think that possibility for selecting images, or some areas, (than adding tags, or even extracting selected things as for example jpgs) would be very valuable.

              • Alert group members when papers are added

I'd like members of my lab (Mendeley group) to have the option of getting an email announcement when anyone adds:
                1) a new article or reference
                and/or
                2) a tag, note, etc
                and/or
                3) any other metadata

This could be a synopsis of what is currently displayed on the dashboard, including a working link directly to the article within the Mendeley group on mendeley.com

for APA formats at least, need to make the second instance (and all beyond) of same reference in text as FirstAuthor et al YEAR.

                  • Add bookmarklet support for patent websites

Lots of patents are only available in scanned format, requiring manual data entry.

I'm mostly interested in US patent sites:
                    http://patft.uspto.gov/ <OR>
                    http://www.google.com/patents

But others might want international sites:
                    http://www.wipo.int/pctdb/en/
                    http://ep.espacenet.com/

                      • csl documentation

I've been mucking about trying to create my own csl style, most of the information out there is good enough. I have a question though, how does csl interact with the mendeley desktop database?, or Zotero gives a mapping of the csl variables and database entries I'd like to know mendeley's. or, how do I get the University/Institution field to show up in my bibliography?

                        • keyboard shortcut to insert citations in MS word

If I want to insert a citation in word, I always need to use my mouse to insert a citation. For instance; Endnote uses the alt+2 shortcut, when using this shortcut, the program inserts the citation that is selected in Endnote, while it does not 'leaves' the Word window.

                          • add "insert citation" support for Bibtex in Lyx/Kile via lyxpipe

Support pushing bibtex citations to Latex editors via a mechanism called lyxpipe. Several editors use lyxpipe, I know at least of Lyx and Kile.

This has been raised with our Development Team. In the meantime we can release documentation of our citation insertion API if you would like to make your own. Please contact Mendeley Support if you are interested.

                            • improve metadata extraction from ADS

The automatic metadata extraction form NASA ADS needs improvement - essentially every paper I import I have to go in and manually add a DOI to get the important data included despite that fact that it's very easy to get ADS entries including the DOI in an easy-to-parse XML format (just add ?data_type=XML to any article). Furthermore, keywords are never imported, even when they are clearly present.

                                • Review/correct DOI looked up metadata before overwriting existing

When I want to import more metadata via DOI lookup that will overwrite the existing metadata. For example if I have an entry with author Silverstein, Michael, and perform a DOI lookup and for that particular journal there are only the initials in the database then it will overwrite the author field with Silverstein, M. It would be great to have an option to check/correct what would be overwritten beforehand.

                                      • Ability to set external pdf viewer

I would like to have the ability to choose which pdf viewer to use to read papers.

I think a similar feature request was closed a couple of weeks ago ("allow to set which pdf viewer to use") with the suggestion of changing the default pdf viewer for the system.

However, I have multiple pdf viewers installed: a lightweight one that I use for most pdfs, and a more complete one with the ability to highlight and take notes that I use for reading papers. The former is my system defaults, but I would like to use the latter in…

There appear to be two issues here: the first is the one reported, whereby mirko.montanari would like to have the option to view PDFs though different browsers.

The second is the ability to have ‘Open Externally’ as default. If this is what you are voting/commenting for, please go here: http://feedback.mendeley.com/forums/4941-general/suggestions/216079-ability-to-set-external-pdf-viewer

Eiher way, both tickets have been raised with our Development Team.

                                        • Add option to 'move' rather than 'copy' with file organizer

While I love file organizer, I would very much welcome having the option to move the auto-filed file, rather than copy it. With this I can automatically clear out folders by importing files, rather than having to double check that each file has been imported-copied before deleting it.
