  1. Text to speech ability for pdf and abstract

It would be great to have ability to hear the selected portion of pdf file, or its abstract in Mendeley. This should help slow readers and vision impaired people. Foe example, I find it more comfortable to hear the introduction in rapid tempo, instead of skimming.

    • Drag and drop pdf copy

Copy PDF's to a new folder, attach to an email etc. by simply dragging them from the Mendeley list of references.

      • Tag filter AND/OR option

If I select two tags (e.g. tag1 and tag2), then only papers that have both tags show up. What if I want papers that have either tag? I can always use the search bar, but tag filtering is so much more elegant. Thus, it would be nice if the user could specify with a checkbox or a button group if the tag filtering should be in AND or in OR mode.

        • set up "import to mendeley" option in google scholar search preferences

Google scholar provides a link to important into several similar kinds of software (e.g., Endnote), but Mendeley isn't included in this list. It would be fantastic if Mendeley was one of those options.

          • Also include filename strings in search results

The search feature currently does not include the filename of a file in its search results. I prepend a unique number to each filename before importing it in Mendeley. Currently I can not use mendeley to search for that unique number

            • Retrieve 'document details' for patents from web using patent number

On Document Details tab, the default search engine to fetch detail information for a paper is Google Scholar. It would be nice to instead use Google Patents "www.google.com/patents" or the uspto website "http://patft.uspto.gov/" when 'Patent' is selected for document type and the patent number is entered manually.

I want to be able to highlight a number of papers and have them all open in the viewer, instead of having to open them one by one.

                • Print PDF with Annotations

PDFs with annotations (notes and highlighting) in Linux are very difficult. Most PDF readers don't see them (acroread does), and many can't print them properly. So I can export my PDFs just fine, but can't actually print them out or share them with my Linux-using collegues. I'd love it if you could have a native way of making the annotations appear in the margins of the PDF document or in some way visible on a printed page, that doesn't rely on the resident PDF annotations. Maybe somthing to print directly or export to PostScript?

This has been partially started: with an open PDF you can currently go to ‘File’ —> ‘Export PDF with annotations’, and then print from outside of Mendeley. Printing through Mendeley is currently another feature that we would like to implement.

                    • Multi-level sort

Currently the documents table can be sorted by one column. It would be very nice to have a multi-level sort, such that the documents can be sorted by more than one column. For instance, if you have multiple articles by the same first author, it would be nice to have the primary sort key by the first author name, and then the secondary sort key by the publication date.

Currently, if you have the following articles sorted by author, they appear like this:

                      Smith, A., Jacobs, A., & Benner., A. (2008).
                      Smith, A., Lee, A. (2001).
                      Smith, A., Zaphod., A,…

                      • Bibliography network visualization and analysis

I don't know any bibliographic software able to visualize/analyze bibliographic relationships (authors, keywords, journals, citations, pagerank) as interactive networks with state of the art graph layouts, navigation, selection and analysis capabilities.
So... what about gradually implementing such features in Mendeley as a new and experimental set of bibliography mining tools?

                        • batch-process google-search for document details

I notice that in many cases, the program correctly identifies the title and sometimes even the author with the search algorithms you have in place. Great!! I was wondering, if you could provide a function that automatically goes through the references that are awaiting review and conducts the search on google-scholar? Also, with the correct author and publication year, wouldn't it be possible to crosscheck? I am having difficulties particularly with articles from Administrative Science Quarterly

                          • KOffice plugin for citations/bibliographies

The plugin for Openoffice is great and works for me. But KOffice is a very serious office suite, so I would propose Mendeley to be the first citation manager to implement a plugin for KOffice. This would be good for both of them, for Mendeley to arrive to new users and because the notoriety of doing something that nobody did before, and for KOffice because it would fill the only relevant feature that is not integrated in the suite.

This is because it is not possible to manage the order of the files in "Document Details -> Files" and the default displayed file is the first of the list. It would be very useful if the user can force the PDF file (or .doc file) to be the default displayed file permitting the retrieval of the other files (typically the…

                                  • bulk DOI lookup

Is there a way to perform a DOI lookup on many entries at once? There are about 700 entries listed as "Needs Review"; about 200 of those already have a DOI. I can go through and perform a DOI lookup on each of those 200, but why doesn't Mendeley do that automatically?

In other words, why are the Document Details wrong if Mendeley can lookup the DOI?

Obviously only for freely accessible PDFs, and supported websites. This would work in exactly the same way as the bookmarklet import.

We are aware of this request and have logged it with our Development Team. Obviously there are various problems associated with implementing a change such as this. Nevertheless, the request has been noted.

                                      • add MathSciNet support to bookmarklet and mrnumber field to bibtex

Please add support for MathScinet (http://www.ams.org/mathscinet). It's a massive index of mathematical research articles; it covers a large proportion of articles from the mid 1940's, and even goes back to the 1820's.

Articles listed in MathSciNet have a Math Reviews number, which I guess is like a PubMed ID but, well, for math. I would really like to have a "MR number" field, just like there's a DOI and PMID field now.

Without these features, Mendeley will be of almost zero use to most mathematicians.
