  1. make the annotations searchable!

I am using the 0.9.4.1. I found the annotations were unsearchable. It would be very nice if we can search the annotations we made.

      • Specify schema for automatic BibTex key generation

I would find very useful if it was possible to specify a schema according to which Mendeley should generate BibTex keys. For example

        [author][1]:[journal]:[year]:[title][5]

(the first author and the first five words of the title). Right now I generate my keys with JabRef, it would be nice to do it directly in Mendeley.

Our Developers are aware of this idea and are looking into new and exciting features for upcoming versions of Mendeley.

        • Import via email

I would like to be able to import new PDFs by emailing them to a personal Mendeley address just as Evernote allows creation of notes via email.

          • remove case sensitivity in tags

because the tag suggestion does not show up if there is a case sensitivity mismatch

            • localization of CSL terms (e.g. "pp", "eds")

Unlike zotero, Mendeley is not able to localize CSL-terms that are used within the citations as well as the bibliography and aim to support multi-language-CSLs.

Terms like editors, pages (pp.) etc. are displayed in english if the citation style uses text terms. The only workaround to date is to edit the csl and hard-code the right terms for your native language (e.g. in german "S. " instead of "pp. " or "Hrsg.: " for "eds.") - making it only usable for one language.

              • manually manage "types" to make them coherent with bibtex. e.g. "incollection"

currently many mendeley types are "translated" into @misc while many bibtex types do not exist (e.g. incollection). Please, insert a function to manually associate mendeley types to bibtex types or any function to better manage the typology of the exported bibtex.

@incollection is currently mapped to ‘Book Section’.

Our Developers are aware of this request and are hoping to implement such changes in the future.

                • Integrate Mendeley with XMind

It would be great, if there was a possibility to integrate the XMind mapping and graphic capabilities with Mendeley - link mapped sources/ideas etc. to the resources in Mendeley.

                  • Shortcuts to change metadata field character cases (sentence case, title case, etc)

Since there seems to be some confusion amongst the Mendeley user population about the proper way to case article titles vs journal titles, imported article titles sometimes appear in title case and very often journal titles are in sentence case. What would be handy would be a simple addition to the context menu for these fields which would allow me to quickly change the contents of the field to sentence case (only the first character of the field capitalized), title case (first character of major words capitalized), all lower and all upper. Zotero has this functionality and it's great....especially since…

                    • Retain PDF annotations when paper is copied from MyLibrary Collection to Shared Collection

With the recent improvements in PDF annotation sync (v0.9.6.1 is a great advance, but still buggy), the default behavior of Mendeley when copying papers to a shared collection should be reconsidered. Currently, annotations are lost when a paper is copied from a personal to shared collection. I realize this was intentional, but does it makes sense now? Considering workflow, one will most often annotate a paper themselves and THEN decide it worthy to elevate to a shared collection.  If the annotations are stripped, one would have to re-enter all annotations in order to share them. Same issue for moving a…

                      • Import and integrate with existing BibTex library

If you already have a BibTex library, it would be nice to see the papers in them displayed in Mendeley. That is, include an import feature that would enable Mendeley to add entries for all the items in a BibTex Library selected by the user.
Moreover, once Mendeley adds a feature for automatic download of papers that have URL's in the document details, this will enable researchers to quickly build a comprehensive library of the papers they have been working with prior to the arrival of Mendeley.

                        • Advanced options to rename PDFs

When automatically renaming PDFs, sometimes file names result too long (with potential compatibility issues). In the PDF renaming menu, you can add:
                          - a Field to determine the max characters of file names
                          - Options to replace blank spaces and special characters: so f.ex. that ' ' turns into '_', and 'á' turns into 'a'

                          • XML-Export to Endnote should support Mendeley-tags

I love working with Mendeley and really like the tagging function.
Since I use EndNote-Styles for citing, I export my documents to Endnote-XML and can use endnote. The only problem is, that the tags that you set in Mendeley are not exported into Endnote. I suggest to export the tags ins the notes-field in Endnote, but any other field would be great as well.

I synchronise my files between Windows, Mac and Linux computers and all non-ASCII characters causes problems. Could you please add a function such that Mendeley file organizer could be set to convert all non-ASCII characters to ASCII, e.g. å -> aa, Ö -> Oa, and remove all special characters that are not accepted in filenames on all three platforms when generating the filename for PDFs, etc. I suggest that white spaces are replaced by underscores. It would ideally be a button that one just checks in the Preferences if needed. Without this function I am unable to use Mendeley to…

Would it be possible to add a field to rename pdf's by the bibtex key? This is how I prefer to organize my pdf's, and the very long names that are sometimes created when using author-date-etc. are very unwieldy.

                                        • fix duplicates in author filter pane

The author filter pane should not show duplicates for

                                          Kennedy, J F
                                          Kennedy, J. F.
                                          Kennedy, J.F.
                                          KENNEDY, J F

I.e. the filter should be smart about dots, spaces and capital letters , so that the above examples would all fall under

                                          Kennedy, J F

This may be relevant for other filters as well, e.g. Publications, Tags, Keywords.

The other option would be for users to manually clean up the authors names to a consistent style. However, this does not make sense since doi-searches returns varying author name formats.
